The history and present of Seoul Myeongdong

Myeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul

It is a travel destination in Seoul where a variety of food, road shops, and shopping malls are concentrated.
If you ask for a lively place, you can choose Myeongdong.

Where did Myeong-dong's name come from?
In the Joseon Dynasty, Myeongdong was called Myeongryebang and Myeongryebanggol in the Joseon Dynasty.

During the Joseon Dynasty, the area was concentrated as a residential area.
During the Japanese colonial period, Myeong-dong gradually became a commercial district as it developed as a commercial district in Chungmuro.
Since 1923, Myeong-dong has become a downtown area of Seoul.
It was still the center of culture and art in Seoul around the time of the liberation and the Korean War.

It was immediately after the Korean War that it became the face of today.
It is said that it was after the government decided that it was an additional district for the land planning theorem for reconstruction.

Since 1956, high-rise buildings have been built due to urban redevelopment, and high-end serpentine stores, Western-style stores, precious metals, large department stores, various offices, financial institutions' headquarters, shopping centers, and retail stores have been concentrated, making it a favorite shopping destination for domestic and foreigners.

It is said that the place where the current Myeong-Dong Cathedral is located was the home of Son Soon-Hyo, who used to sit down at Seongjong during the Joseon Dynasty.
Son Soon-hyo is said to be the one who received the favor of Seongjong because he was very filial, honest, and profoundly sentenced.

In addition, it was said that the hill in front of the Myeongdong Cathedral was called Bukdaljae or Bukgogae because the longevity of the Ming Dynasty encamped during the Imjin War during the Imjin War.

The reason why the MyeongDong Catholic Church was built was that despite the persecution and threats of Daewon-gun, it was said that Kim Bum-Woo, the first martyr of the Catholic Church of Korea, who died at the age of being tortured and exiled as the first Catholic church in Korea.

It is said that the Myeongdong Cathedral was built according to the historical significance that the home of Myeongryebang where Kim Bum-Woo lived was the first place of Catholic worship. The Myeongdong Cathedral is the first brick Gothic architecture church in Korea.

As it entered modernization, it became a meeting place, a place of art, romance and shopping.
Because it has been changed for a long time, it makes me soaked in memories and perfumes of each period.
It is now a must for overseas tourists.
